About the Role
An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior or Associate Flood Risk Consultant to join its London office.
This is a key hire within a growing flood and water team supporting high-profile residential, mixed-use and urban regeneration schemes across London and the South East.
The Opportunity
You will work as part of a wider civil, structural and environmental team, providing flood risk and drainage expertise to development-led projects at planning and design stage.
The portfolio includes:
- Residential-led regeneration schemes
- High-density mixed-use developments
- Brownfield redevelopment sites
- Urban infill projects across Zones 1-3
- Thames corridor and strategically constrained sites
- Strategic land promotion and phased masterplans
These are complex urban developments where flood risk, drainage strategy and SuDS integration are critical to securing planning consent and delivering viable design solutions.
The Role
Core Responsibilities
- Preparation of Flood Risk Assessments to support planning applications
- Production of Drainage Strategies and surface water management reports
- Design input into SuDS and attenuation proposals
- Runoff calculations and hydraulic assessments
- Use of modelling software such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, InfoWorks ICM or similar (level dependent)
- Support with Sequential and Exception Test documentation
- Coordination with civil engineering design teams
- Liaison with Environment Agency, LLFAs and statutory consultees
The role will focus primarily on development planning support and urban drainage strategy rather than large-scale flood defence engineering.
Senior Level
- Lead project delivery from feasibility through planning submission
- Manage deadlines, budgets and client communication
- Review and support junior team members
- Represent the discipline in multidisciplinary design meetings
Associate Level
- Provide technical oversight across projects
- Act as key client contact on major schemes
- Support fee proposals and work-winning
- Contribute to team growth and development strategy
- Mentor and develop junior staff
About You
- Strong experience delivering flood risk and drainage work within a consultancy environment
- Experience working on residential or mixed-use developments
- Good understanding of London Borough and Environment Agency requirements
- Proficiency in hydraulic modelling software (level dependent)
- Chartered or working towards chartership preferred for Associate level
You will be confident working in a multidisciplinary setting and comfortable engaging with planners, architects and clients.
