About the Role

Are you an experienced ecologist looking to take a leadership role within a growing regional team? This opportunity offers the chance to shape a new ecology function in the Northeast, contributing to nationally significant projects in energy, transport, and infrastructure.

You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, work across diverse landscapes, and help drive environmental innovation-all while developing a team, mentoring others, and influencing sustainable outcomes

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the ecological aspects of development and infrastructure projects
  • Design and oversee habitat and species surveys, especially for bats and amphibians
  • Deliver high-quality technical reports including EcIA and HRA submissions
  • Provide clients with clear, commercially aware ecological advice
  • Mentor junior colleagues and support their professional growth
  • Promote integrated environmental approaches and adopt digital tools where appropriate
  • Drive business development activities and support work-winning initiatives
  • Build and manage a high-performing local ecology team while collaborating nationally

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Ecology or related subject (postgraduate qualification advantageous)
  • Chartered or working toward chartered status with a relevant professional body
  • Strong consultancy experience and in-depth knowledge of UK wildlife legislation
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget
  • Skilled in writing and reviewing high-quality ecological assessments
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing abilities
  • Passion for mentoring, developing others, and shaping team culture
  • Willingness to travel within the UK as required
