About the Role

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity for an experienced ecologist to lead and shape a growing regional ecology team while working on some of the UK's most dynamic and sustainability-focused infrastructure projects. Based in Stirling, this role spans renewable energy, water, transport, and national-scale utility schemes, with opportunities to influence project outcomes from concept through to delivery.

This is ideal for someone who enjoys blending fieldwork and strategic leadership with team development and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex ecological projects and manage inputs across a diverse portfolio
  • Deliver and review high-quality reports (PEA, EcIA, HRA, BNG, LEMPs, CEMPs)
  • Design, commission, and manage habitat and species surveys through consultant networks
  • Contribute to survey delivery based on your expertise (botanical, bat, ornithology)
  • Liaise with regulators and stakeholders including NatureScot and local planning authorities
  • Prepare fee proposals and manage project budgets
  • Support and grow a regional ecology team within a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Develop mitigation strategies, restoration plans, and biodiversity enhancements
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Scottish planning policy and environmental legislation

What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Ecology or related subject (postgraduate degree desirable)
  • Full or eligible for CIEEM membership
  • Deep understanding of UK wildlife law and the Scottish planning system
  • Experience leading large and linear infrastructure projects
  • Skilled in UKHab classifications, habitat condition assessments, and BNG metrics
  • Protected species licences (e.g. bats, GCN) and experience in mitigation design
  • Excellent report writing, stakeholder communication, and client engagement skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead small, dispersed teams
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
