A leading UK structural steelwork specialist with a strong reputation for quality, safety and technical excellence is looking to expand its commercial team. The company has a long history of successful project delivery across a wide range of complex builds and maintains strong, long-term partnerships with major contractors. Due to continued growth and new project wins, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sales / Estimating Manager to join the team.

 

The Role

This is a key position responsible for converting sales opportunities into project revenue and ensuring all estimates are accurate, competitive and aligned with commercial targets. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the successful candidate will lead and develop the Estimating team, manage key tenders and play a pivotal role in maintaining client relationships and driving business performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing Estimating and Sales team
  • Manage all incoming enquiries and ensure accurate, timely responses
  • Liaise and negotiate with sub-contractors to secure competitive pricing
  • Personally convert a minimum of three enquiries per week while supporting team targets
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, architects and internal departments
  • Produce accurate reports on enquiries and pipeline activity for senior management
  • Attend pre-tender interviews and post-tender presentations
  • Build and maintain strong client and consultant relationships
  • Review team performance, providing feedback and coaching to improve results

 

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Estimating or Sales professional from a structural steel or construction background. You will bring strong commercial awareness, technical understanding and leadership capability.

 

Essential

  • BSc/HNC in Building Studies or related discipline
  • Proven experience pricing projects from 50-3,000 tonnes
  • Strong background in construction and estimating
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and Tekla models
  • Team management and leadership experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project

 

Desirable

  • Chartership (MCIOB or RICS)
  • Knowledge of steelwork design and structural or civil engineering
  • Experience with value engineering and temporary works
