Kate Peers-McQueen
Kate Peers-McQueen
Associate Director, Residential Development & Town Planning

About the Role

Our client is a dynamic and forward-thinking consultancy committed to delivering better outcomes for people and the planet by transforming the places where they live and work. With a small team that achieves outsized impact, the company has recently supported the development of economic strategies and delivery plans for towns and cities across the UK, assisted one of London's fastest-changing boroughs in responding to the housing crisis, and guided local authorities through government reorganisation.

The consultancy's mission is to address the pressing challenges faced by communities through innovative, evidence-led solutions. They are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to contribute to the successful delivery of place and economy projects. This role presents the opportunity to work across a variety of meaningful assignments involving socio-economic research, strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and project management. This position would suit candidates with backgrounds in consultancy, public policy, local government, think tanks, or related disciplines such as economic development and regeneration.

Your role will play a central role in designing and delivering research and strategy projects that help public sector clients create inclusive, resilient, and prosperous local economies. Working closely with senior leadership, the role involves managing workstreams, supporting colleagues, and ensuring the production of high-quality outputs across multiple live projects. Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and managing socio-economic research and analysis programmes
  • Translating evidence into clear, actionable recommendations for clients
  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to develop strategic reports
  • Leading project delivery, including coordination with external partners
  • Facilitating workshops and stakeholder engagement with senior officers, elected members, and community representatives

This is a highly collaborative environment where creative and strategic thinking are encouraged. The successful candidate will be supported in developing innovative approaches and challenging conventional practices to deliver meaningful outcomes.

The ideal candidate has a deep interest in the functioning of local economies and a strong desire to influence positive change. They bring a thoughtful, analytical approach, while also contributing imaginative solutions to complex challenges.

An interest in understanding the distinctiveness of different places, a commitment to creating impact for communities, and the ability to interpret data meaningfully are essential. Strong interpersonal skills, confidence in leading conversations with stakeholders, and the capacity to manage multiple workstreams effectively are also key attributes. You must have:

  • Minimum three years of professional experience in a relevant field
  • Strong research and analysis capabilities, with familiarity with UK data sources (e.g. ONS, CoStar, Realyse, London Datastore)
  • Proven project management and client relationship experience
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Background in economic development, regeneration, or the built environment
  • Experience in designing and facilitating stakeholder engagement activities

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in spatial analysis (ideally using QGIS or equivalent tools)
  • Knowledge of the UK local government and regeneration landscape
  • Experience producing socio-economic baselines
  • Ability to translate data and insight into policies, strategies, or vision documents

This is an exciting opportunity to join a values-driven consultancy, contribute to impactful work, and grow within a highly collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.

Please apply here or give me (Kate) a call to discuss. My client is looking to find the right candidate as soon as possible - so if in doubt, do get in touch. I also have other clients and roles that may be of interest.

If you do not hear anything back within one week, please assume that you have been unsuccessful on this occasion, but I will retain your details for future roles.
