Cobalt are working with a large NHS Trust in London to recruit an interim Clerk of Works, paying £225-£250 per day LTD rate (inside IR35, via umbrella company) depending on experience. This will be an initial 6-12 month contract, with a view to extend.
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking inspections of building works in progress across both capital and minor works that are procured using various forms of construction contract management principles.
You will be the 'eyes and ears' for the Estates and Capital teams. You will be undertaking regular site visits and inspections of works being undertaken and updating the senior managers, project / contract leads on regular basis.
You will be liaising with and undertaking:
Building contractors
Suppliers
Architects
Principle designer CDM
Be involved with the Health & Safety plan
Undertake Health & Safety compliance checks
M&E Consultants
Reading and interpreting drawings,
Issuing daily, weekly or monthly site reports
Researching technical data
Working as part of an existing team
Be able to use the Microsoft Office software, including Project and AutoCAD
Prepare specific reports as directed
Monitoring and reporting Project progress
Monitoring quality and verifying compliance contractual drawings and specifications
Checking warranty standards and employers requirements
Identifying any discrepancies
Providing photographic evidence of progress, standards and defects
Undertake snagging
End of defect inspections
Witness commissioning
Arrange training sessions for the maintenance department on new and specialist equipment installed
You will have/be able to:
Professional qualification in Multi-disciplinary Construction and Membership of ICoW, CIOB, RICS (or similar).
Broad and significant experience of construction processes for capital works.
Carry out regular inspections of ongoing construction, ensuring contractors are working in compliance with specification, design information, agreed programme, contractual obligation and legislation.
Assist the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor to manage contracts and maintain contractual and fiscal control to completion of the project.
Effective communication skills to deal with key stakeholders and NHS staff across the Trust.
Analyse complex construction and engineering problems rapidly and respond quickly through integration of commercial acumen and technical knowledge.
Previous site-based experience of design and installation criteria for building engineering services.
Ensure that the Health & Safety on the construction sites are adhered to.
On completion of all projects, manage and coordinate the training of the in-house estates and FM teams to ensure safe use and operation of all systems and equipment.
