About the Role
Managing Director/Head of Investments - Renewable Energy (Iberia)
Location: Preferred - Berlin or Madrid
Languages: Fluent Spanish and English required
Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Managing Director (MD)/Head of Investments to lead our investment function and continue scaling our European platform. There is a clear line of progression to CIO. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in renewable energy transactions, particularly in Spain and Portugal, and will play a key role in overseeing the investment lifecycle-from origination to execution and optimisation.
This role is also designed with succession planning in mind. We are looking for a senior leader who can eventually transition into the CIO role, bringing similar technical depth, strategic foresight, and operational intensity as the current CIO.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead origination, structuring, negotiation, and execution of renewable energy M&A and project finance transactions across Iberia and Germany.
- Oversee financial modelling, due diligence, risk assessment, and valuation.
- Manage negotiations on SPAs, E-shares, and key commercial terms.
- Optimise portfolio revenue through active asset management and commercial strategies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to secure internal approvals quickly and efficiently-an advantage rarely seen in global platforms.
- Review and validate financial models and investment cases at a highly granular level.
- Contribute to broader strategic decision-making as part of the senior leadership team.
- Build and mentor talent with a long-term view toward succession planning.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience:
- 10+ years in renewable energy investment, with a strong record of closed transactions in Spain and Portugal.
- Deep project finance (PF) execution capabilities.
- Background in corporate finance (CF) or infrastructure investment; experience in pureplay infrastructure investment firms is acceptable.
- Skills:
- Exceptional skills in financial modelling and revenue optimisation.
- Comfort with detailed commercial and legal negotiations (e.g., SPAs, shareholder agreements).
- Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence at the board level.
- Attributes:
- Aggressive and proactive leadership style; not afraid to get into the weeds.
- Highly detail-oriented and analytically rigorous.
- Collaborative yet decisive, with a bias for action.
- Language Proficiency:
- Fluent in Spanish and English (both written and verbal).
