About the Role

Job Title - Planning Engineer - Power Transmission & Distribution
Location: Norwich, UK (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary - Up to £70,000 plus an excellent package

Client

Our client is delivering a major infrastructure project - the Norwich Main Grid Park and associated systems - which includes key elements of a wind farm and a substation connected to the National Grid. As of April 2024, the project involved laying 35 miles of onshore cabling from the coast to a new converter station near Norwich, forming part of the Ørsted Hornsea 3 wind farm development. This flagship project also features a large-scale converter station and battery storage system to support renewable energy integration.

About the Role

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Planning Engineer to join their growing Power Transmission & Distribution business. If you're passionate about delivering high-impact infrastructure projects and have strong experience in planning and scheduling, this is your opportunity to be part of something truly transformative.

We're looking for a motivated planning professional with a strong background in construction scheduling and resource management. Experience using Primavera P6 and working on substation or transmission projects is highly desirable.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Ensure all programme content complies with planning procedures and company standards
  • Identify planning scope, major constraints, and contractual obligations
  • Develop strategic, optimized methodologies for design, procurement, and delivery
  • Produce detailed planning documentation including tender programmes, reports, and presentations
  • Manage and maintain contract programmes post-award, including baseline updates and change control
  • Analyse and communicate the project critical path to project teams
  • Oversee resource planning (labour, plant, materials) to optimise cost and efficiency
  • Support contract management through monitoring subcontractor performance
  • Provide strategic planning oversight and mentorship to junior planners
  • Generate project data and KPIs to track performance and support decision-making

What We're Looking For

  • Proficiency with project planning tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, Excel, ASTA)
  • Strong knowledge of construction project management methodologies
  • Deep experience in developing and managing complex construction schedules
  • Understanding of tender and contract documentation and various contract types
  • Familiarity with project risk assessment tools (TRA, QSRA, etc.)
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Previous experience in leading planning for large infrastructure or energy projects
