About the Role

Cobalt is working with a privately owned property investment and development business seeking a Property Accountant to join its growing finance function in Mayfair.

The business has an expanding portfolio of residential developments, with a particular focus on affordable and social housing. Its projects involve acquiring, renovating and converting properties before leasing them to housing associations and registered providers.

Operating with a close-knit team, the organisation offers the opportunity to work alongside senior decision-makers while contributing to property developments with a social purpose.

The business offers a discretionary bonus, Bupa healthcare and dental cover, alongside flexibility around holiday entitlement and office attendance.

The role

This is an opportunity for a Property Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day UK accounting function while gaining exposure to property investment and development activity.

Working closely with the CFO, senior directors and wider group finance team, the Property Accountant will combine bookkeeping, management reporting and financial control across multiple property projects.

The position also offers scope to improve existing reporting processes, introduce efficiencies and help shape the finance function as the portfolio grows.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports for senior management.

  • Maintaining accounting records, purchase ledgers and supplier information.

  • Processing invoices, payment requests and supporting payment runs.

  • Monitoring development expenditure and allocating costs to the appropriate properties and projects.

  • Completing bank and balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.

  • Supporting budgeting, cash-flow forecasting and financial planning.

  • Improving manual reporting processes and strengthening financial controls.

  • Using Smartsheet, Oracle and Xero to maintain financial information and support reporting.

  • Providing financial information to the CFO, directors and wider business to support decision-making.

The skills needed

We are looking for a Property Accountant who enjoys combining transactional accounting with management reporting and wants to take ownership of their work.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Previous accounting experience within property investment, development, real estate or property management.

  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping, management accounts and financial reporting.

  • Understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.

  • The ability to manage financial information across multiple properties or projects.

  • Working knowledge of Excel and accounting software, with exposure to Smartsheet, Oracle or Xero advantageous.

  • The ability to communicate financial information to finance and non-finance colleagues.

  • An organised approach to managing deadlines, with attention to accuracy.

  • A willingness to improve existing processes and work independently within a small team.

Applications are welcomed from qualified, part-qualified and qualified-by-experience accountants, including those pursuing ACA, ACCA, CIMA or AAT qualifications.

Salary: £60,000-£65,000 + discretionary bonus and benefits

Location: Mayfair, London

Working pattern: Three to four days in the office, with flexibility

Contract: Permanent
