About the Role

Cobalt is working with a leading construction and engineering firm that delivers cutting-edge infrastructure projects across the UK. They are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Regional Buildings division and play a key role in delivering a state-of-the-art engineering and laboratory workspace for a high-security site in Reading. This is an opportunity to work on a landmark project featuring innovative office spaces, learning environments, and science laboratories designed to blend seamlessly with nature.

The Role

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing project costs, ensuring value for money while maintaining the highest quality standards. You will lead commercial aspects of the project, working closely with stakeholders to deliver on time and within budget. Key responsibilities include:

  • Cost Engineering & Estimating - Preparing activity schedules, analysing tender documents, and negotiating costs with third parties.
  • Procurement & Contract Management - Developing procurement strategies, reviewing subcontractor activities, and managing commercial agreements.
  • Project & Commercial Management - Monitoring financial progress, preparing internal reports, and handling claims and variations.
  • Leadership & Development - Managing junior commercial staff and supporting their professional development.

 

What We're Looking For

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience).
  • Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards).
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to lead teams, mentor junior staff, and engage with stakeholders.
