A leading UK structural steelwork contractor with over 50 years of experience is seeking a highly skilled Senior Structural Design Engineer to join their design team. Role Summary
The Senior Structural Design Engineer will be responsible for producing accurate and efficient designs for structural steel frameworks, connections, and associated elements. The role involves managing projects independently or in coordination with other members of the design team and reporting to the Head of Design.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake structural steelwork frame, member, and connection design using both manual and software methods.
* Lead or assist in managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
* Coordinate technical information between clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
* Prepare detailed design calculations and technical documentation.
* Review and check design work prepared by other team members.
* Participate in internal and external design and coordination meetings.
* Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate design engineers.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of design procedures and business processes.
* Ensure designs comply with relevant British and European standards and company QA procedures.
Essential Requirements
* Minimum of 10 years' experience in the design of structural steelwork.
* Proven knowledge of relevant British and European design codes and standards.
* Previous experience working with a UK-based steelwork fabricator.
* Degree-qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering.
* Ideally working towards, or already holding, incorporated or chartered status.
* Experienced in the use of software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Portal Designer, MasterSeries, S-Frame, Idea Statica, and cold-rolled supplier design programs.
* Strong technical and analytical ability, with excellent problem-solving skills.
* Experience in designing temporary works would be an advantage.
* Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and coordinate with multiple project stakeholders.
* Strong attention to detail, organisation, and documentation skills.
