DESIGN MANAGER - COMMERCIAL NEW BUILD

WEST LONDON

£ NEGOTIABLE (D.O.E)

My client, a leading commercial build contractor, is seeking an experienced Design Manager with a solid background in design management on new build schemes. You will be involved in the pre-construction and production, from concept through to completion, on a commercial build project based in West London (valued at c. £50K).

You will be working for a leading construction & development organisation, delivering high-quality projects across public and commercial private sectors.

About the role

Your day to day will consist of,

  • Design Coordination: Coordinate the design process from initial concept through to detailed design, ensuring that all designs meet project requirements, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of designers, engineers, and consultants, fostering a collaborative and creative working environment.

  • Client Collaboration: Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, requirements, and expectations, and ensure that design solutions meet their needs while adhering to project constraints.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes to ensure that all designs meet the highest standards of quality, functionality, and compliance.

  • Budget and Schedule Management: Work closely with project managers to develop and maintain design budgets and schedules, monitoring progress and identifying and addressing any issues or delays.

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate design-related risks and issues, proactively addressing potential challenges to ensure the smooth progression of projects.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulations, codes, and standards, ensuring that all designs comply with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Supplier and Subcontractor Management: Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and other external partners to ensure that design requirements are met and that materials and services are delivered on time and within budget.

About you

You will need to have,

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the construction industry, with a focus on new build commercial projects - from concept through to delivery stage of the scheme

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve their full potential.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and external partners.

  • Sound knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality.

  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and strategically to overcome challenges and find innovative solutions.
