Health and Safety Manager (Fire Safety)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year

Health and safety is very important. The aim of the Health and Safety Manager is to minimise risks to patients, staff and visitors. Working as a health and safety manager, you will plan, implement, monitor and review protective and preventative safety measures and look at all aspects of health and safety including:

  • Infection control and COVID-19 precautions

  • Assist business unit managers with H&S audits

  • Review and provide recommendations following Fire Risk Assessments

  • Monitor and maintain the asbestos register for all sites

  • Provide scheduled remedial corrective works to line manager in line with audits and reports

  • Verify statutory inspections and maintenance has been completed

  • safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

  • dealing with hazardous substances

  • violence and abusive behaviour

  • manual handling (lifting, carrying, etc)

  • food hygiene

Duties include:

  • carry out building inspections

  • carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced

  • outline safe operational procedures which identify and take into account all relevant hazards

  • carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented

  • ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation

  • assist in preparing health and safety strategies and develop internal policy

  • lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks

  • keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements

  • record incidents and accidents and produce statistics for managers

  • keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the employer's industry

  • attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and read professional journals

  • produce management reports, newsletters and bulletins

  • ensure equipment is installed safely

  • manage and organise the safe disposal of hazardous substances, e.g. asbestos

  • advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.In carrying out these functions, you are expected to:

Skills Required:

Essential skills for any health and safety role are attention to detail, patience and diplomacy, and the ability to analyse complex data. An investigative mind and an interest in the law are also required.

Health and safety managers need to be:

  • interested in health and safety

  • willing to follow procedures

  • able to train staff at all levels

  • able to prioritise

  • willing to work under pressure

  • calm in stressful situations

  • report writing skills

  • time management skills

  • good planning and organisational skills

Qualifications:

There are no set entry requirements, but you are expected to have knowledge of health and safety, ideally you would have a NEBOSH or similar qualification.
