Adaora Onuora
Recruitment Consultant, Residential Development & Town Planning

About the Role

We're thrilled to be partnering with one of the UK's most active and ambitious residential-led developers as they look to bring on board an Assistant Development Manager. With a pipeline spanning the South West and Southern England, this is your chance to be involved in delivering impactful schemes ranging from 100 to 1,000+ units.

Whether your background is in development or planning, this company thrives on hiring individuals who are highly numerate, commercially aware, and passionate about placemaking and the broader property and political landscape. You'll play a vital role in supporting or driving forward complex, large-scale projects-often in partnership with JV collaborators-and collaborating closely with Land and Construction teams throughout the development lifecycle.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Evaluating potential sites for development in tandem with the Land team, assessing both planning and viability prospects.
  • Managing pre-application submissions and full planning applications with the support of external planning consultants.
  • Conducting due diligence, feasibility reviews, and full development appraisals to assess commercial viability.
  • Coordinating with internal departments and overseeing a wide range of external consultants.
  • Negotiating Section 106 agreements and working on the discharge of planning conditions and RMAs.
  • Representing the company at Planning Committees, public consultations, and stakeholder meetings throughout the planning journey.

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in Development or Town Planning (preferably RTPI or RICS accredited).
  • Previous experience in a consultancy, developer, or housing association setting.
  • Strong communication skills, a sharp analytical mindset, and a team-focused attitude.
  • Motivation, resilience, and a genuine desire to immerse yourself in every stage of the development process.

If you're looking for an opportunity to roll up your sleeves, learn quickly, and progress in a fast-paced, rewarding environment-this is it. The company recognises and rewards effort; in fact, bonuses have doubled in previous years, reflecting strong performance and growth.

Interested? Apply directly through this ad, or feel free to call me (Adaora) for a confidential chat. My client is keen to secure the right person quickly, so if you're on the fence, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm also working on several other roles that may align with your experience.

If you haven't heard from me within a week, please assume you were not shortlisted on this occasion. Rest assured, I'll keep your details on file for future opportunities. We treat your application with complete confidentiality and will never share your CV without your permission. You can also contact me directly via aonuora@cobaltrecruitment.com for a discreet discussion.

This master developer continue to believe that to become 'outstanding', new places need to pass two crucial tests: 1. Will new residents be proud, not just of their new home, but of the place they live in? Will it, from day one, be somewhere they want to invite their friends and family to visit? 2. Will their neighbours, some of whose families will have lived in the area for generations, feel that our work has improved their lives?
