Business Rates, Surveyor - Associate

About the Role

Cobalt are supporting a leading global real estate consultancy looking to strengthen its London Business Rates team with an experienced Surveyor through to Director level.

This is an opportunity to join an established UK Rating team with a strong existing book of business, advising a broad range of major occupier and investor clients across varied commercial property portfolios.

The team is looking to add further expertise as it continues to grow, and there is flexibility around level depending on experience.

The Role

You will work across a varied range of commercial Rating instructions, with responsibilities including:

• Providing strategic and technical Business Rates advice to clients across commercial property portfolios.
• Managing Check, Challenge, Appeal (CCA) work and engaging directly with the Valuation Office Agency.
• Preparing valuation evidence, negotiating assessments and identifying opportunities to reduce clients' rate liabilities.
• Advising on wider Rating matters including reliefs, exemptions and changes to property assessments.
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing clients.
• Taking ownership of instructions and managing work with a high degree of autonomy.
• Supporting and mentoring more junior members of the team where appropriate.
• At a more senior level, contributing to business development, winning new instructions and helping shape the continued growth of the team.

About You

The opportunity could suit someone from Surveyor through to Associate Director level, with the exact position shaped around experience.

Ideally, you will:

• Have strong experience within Business Rates / Rating.
• Be MRICS qualified, or working towards qualification
• Have experience of CCA work, valuation evidence and negotiations with the VOA.
• Be comfortable managing client relationships and taking ownership of instructions.
• Have experience across one or more commercial property sectors.
• Be commercially minded and keen to develop your career within an established Rating platform.
