Job Title - Lead Carbon Advisor

Location: London / Hybrid
Company: Tier one contractor (Building)

Salary - Very competitive and includes car allowance, bonus, pension and travel

The Role

Our client is seeking a passionate and technically skilled Whole Life Carbon Advisor to lead and support carbon assessments across the lifecycle of buildings and infrastructure. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in embedding carbon-conscious decision-making - from concept design through to operation and end-of-life - helping clients meet net zero targets and regulatory requirements.

You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver meaningful carbon insights, shape sustainability strategies, and influence how major construction and infrastructure projects are delivered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead whole life carbon assessments using tools such as One Click LCA and Excel-based models.
  • Evaluate material choices, construction methods, and supply chain impacts to reduce embodied carbon emissions.
  • Collaborate with design and project teams to gather, validate, and analyse data.
  • Advise on carbon reduction strategies across design, procurement, construction, and asset management phases.
  • Present findings and recommendations clearly to clients, stakeholders, and design teams.
  • Ensure alignment with PAS 2080, RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment, UK NZCBS, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Keep up to date with emerging tools, benchmarks, and methodologies in carbon management.
  • Produce high-quality reports translating complex data into actionable insights.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and version control across all assessments.
  • Support third-party audits and validations to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Represent our client externally at industry events, conferences, and webinars.
  • Contribute to broader sustainability goals beyond carbon, in line with our client's Environmental Ambition Roadmap.

Measures of Success

  • Accurate, consistent, and timely delivery of whole life carbon assessments.
  • Measurable reductions in embodied and operational carbon achieved through your insights.
  • Positive stakeholder feedback and successful third-party validations.
  • Robust documentation ensuring transparency and traceability.
  • Active contribution to internal improvements, knowledge sharing, and industry learning.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (or equivalent) in environmental engineering, architecture, sustainability, building physics, or construction management.
  • Proficiency in whole life carbon tools and MS Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of PAS 2080, RICS WLCA, UK NZCBS, and NHS Net Zero Building Standard.
  • Experience with LCA methodologies, embodied carbon modelling, and BIM integration for carbon workflows.
  • Understanding of circular economy principles and low-carbon design strategies.
  • Ability to communicate complex carbon data to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary project teams within the built environment.
  • Confident presenting at industry events or internal training sessions.
  • Experience with sustainability certifications (e.g. BREEAM, Passive House, UK NZCBS).
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for sustainability and carbon reduction.

Our Client's Values in Action

  • Respect: Treat everyone with fairness and professionalism.
  • Collaboration: Work together to achieve shared sustainability goals.
  • Integrity: Communicate openly, act ethically, and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Excellence: Strive for quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment: Bring your best self to work every day, contributing to collective success.
