About the Role
Our client, who are a global Tier one Contractor are delivering a major infrastructure programme on a major value Substation project near Bridgwater - Running through to Q2 2028. To support this complex scheme, they are building a high-performing project team to drive successful delivery from the earliest stages. This is a site-based role around the Bristol and Bridgwater area, supporting the UK's journey to Net Zero through best-in-class programme planning, controls, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Planning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role across the full lifecycle of the project. Your responsibilities will include:
Programme Development & Management
- Develop, maintain, and manage robust, fully resourced, and logically linked programmes across all project phases.
- Lead the development of strategic tender plans and proposals, using your planning insights to influence bid outcomes.
Project Delivery & Control
- Oversee the contract programme and ensure alignment with both commercial and operational requirements.
- Identify and manage risks and opportunities across the programme, incorporating mitigation plans into the schedule.
Reporting & Communication
- Deliver accurate planning updates, KPIs, dashboards, and reports to senior stakeholders.
- Conduct critical path analysis and maintain up-to-date reporting against baseline metrics.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and Clients to ensure programme integrity and cross-functional coordination.
- Mentor and support junior planning staff, encouraging a collaborative planning culture.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the evolution of planning processes, systems, and methodologies, promoting best practice and innovation.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking an experienced and proactive planning professional with a strategic mindset and the confidence to lead across all levels of project execution. You will bring:
- A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Proven experience in planning roles on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects.
- Expert proficiency in Primavera P6, with knowledge of Asta Powerproject as an advantage.
- Deep understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, earned value analysis, QSRA, and TRA techniques.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a structured approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, hybrid delivery environment.
