Safety Compliance Officer

Based Manchester

Salary up to £30,000

Hours: 08:30am-5:00pm

My client is proud to work across residential developments for some of the most impressive apartments in Manchester. Due to continued growth, the company is looking for a driven safety specialist to help maintain policies and procedures to remain within the industry's regulatory framework. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all statutory obligations, reporting into the Operations Manager and responsible for inspecting and surveying properties for fire and other relevant risks to comply with relevant regulations and associated legislation.

The successful candidate will work with a small, hardworking but sociable team to deliver an exceptional service to residents.

Responsibilities

  • To ensure the company and its clients are:

    • compliant in with regulatory and legal requirements

    • compliant in with internal policies and procedures

  • To ensure a consistent standard of processes, procedures and service levels are delivered

  • To work with management and staff to identify and manage regulatory risk

  • You will create or update internal policies to mitigate the risk and ensure adherence to all relevant laws and regulations

  • You will lead internal audits of procedures and report to senior management on your findings

  • Coordinate (and lead where the significance requires) the investigation and escalation of all incidents, and client issues

  • To determine a compliance metric/KPIs and establish a system for tracking them

  • Undertake audits and inspections of contractors and working practices to ensure a safe working environment

  • Providing support and advice on site access, safety, induction, and training practices

  • Analysis of contractor safety performance and report monthly

  • Review & approve supplier vetting, risk assessments and method statements

The Role

  • Demonstrate, through effective delivery, all statutory maintenance requirements are in place for all clients

  • Ensure 100% compliance with all business activities, providing recommendations to Senior Management as required

  • Ensure that all compliance responsibilities as part of appointment are undertaken on behalf of clients

  • Undertake regular and specified site inspections to ensure quality of delivery, ensure necessary corrective action is undertaken

  • Produce monthly management reports on all necessary subjects to aid business improvement by Senior Management

  • Provide professional and accurate advice to the contractors / suppliers as appropriate

  • Work with the site-based teams to manage any site-based incidents as and when required

Key Competencies

  • Experience and knowledge in the Property Industry

  • Evidence of practical audit/inspection experience. Third Party Certificated as either a - Fire Risk Assessor or Auditor through the Institution of Fire Engineers Register, or evidence of working towards

  • Membership of, or working towards membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers or similar organisation

  • The ability to demonstrate experience in both inspection and management of safety

  • Possess thorough up to date knowledge of safety legislation and best practice

  • Ability and experience of reviewing plans, strategies, and designs to ensure principles of Fire Safety are compliant

  • The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of risk assessment processes and fire regulation

Framework, Boundaries, Decision Making Authority and Responsibility:

  • To ensure that all the resources, measures, processes and systems support, drive and deliver the needs of the role and reflect the standards of the business

Desirable Qualifications:

  • IOSH

  • AIRPM desirable

  • Relevant qualification in Fire Safety (IFE, NEBOSH)

  • Computer literate with competence in the standard MS Office Applications

  • Willing to undertake all reasonable tasks requested by their manager
