Project - Major Hospital Project

Our client has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Planner (Asta) to join their planning team, supporting the delivery of one of the Channel Islands' largest and most high-profile healthcare developments.

The successful candidate will play a key role on the new Overdale Acute Hospital project in Jersey - a landmark £700m+ healthcare scheme being delivered as part of the Government of Jersey's New Healthcare Facilities Programme. The development will provide a state-of-the-art acute hospital facility spanning approximately 47,500m², incorporating a new Emergency Department, operating theatres, inpatient and critical care beds, alongside a dedicated Women's and Children's Centre.

This is a rare opportunity to become involved in a technically complex, major healthcare project from its early delivery stages, working alongside multidisciplinary teams on a scheme that will have a lasting impact on the island's healthcare infrastructure for generations to come.

Job Purpose and Scope

You will be responsible for updating and monitoring a fully integrated programme, including implementing and managing change throughout the lifecycle of the project.

The role requires a Senior Planner who is methodical, proactive and data-driven, whilst possessing the communication skills to confidently engage with all stakeholders involved in the project, including the client and their representatives.

Essential

  • Use of specialist planning software (Asta); training from other planning software is an option
  • Strong planning experience gained within a live construction site environment
  • Previous experience working on major healthcare, infrastructure or technically complex construction projects would be highly advantageous
  • Hands-on planning mindset with determination and passion for identifying problems before they are realised to deliver the best possible outcome
  • Ability to think critically and methodically
  • Capability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently
  • Strong record-keeping skills and a data-driven attitude with project controls experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of development including design, procurement, construction (structure, architecture and services), commissioning and handover
  • Ability to quickly and clearly articulate key issues whilst listening to and capturing concerns from others
  • Detailed knowledge of UK key features of common forms of contract

Accountabilities and Key Tasks

  • Compiling and undertaking project progress reviews
  • Maintaining programme quality and integrity throughout the project lifecycle
  • Carrying out in-depth programme analysis and communicating project risks and opportunities, including proposing mitigating actions
  • Developing and managing optimum working programmes in conjunction with project teams to meet key project objectives covering design, procurement, enabling works, construction, commissioning, handover and client milestones
  • Chairing and minuting programme, logistics and delivery workshops
  • Capturing and analysing as-built progress data
  • Communicating effectively within the project team to ensure all parties understand their responsibilities in achieving programme objectives
  • Analysing documents from external and internal sources
  • Meeting and communicating with supply chain specialists to confirm suitable methods and programmes for project-specific constraints
  • Monitoring and reporting progress against programmes whilst suggesting mitigation actions where required
  • Demonstrating entitlement and programme management strategies to protect the business from commercial harm
  • Summarising project status updates to senior management, highlighting unresolved risks and potential overruns
